Audio Effects
Apply EQ, compression, noise gate, and reverb to audio clips in Tooscut.
Real-time audio processing per clip. Each effect toggles independently and all parameters support keyframes.
Select an audio clip and open the Audio tab in the properties panel.
Equalizer (3-band EQ)
| Band | Default Frequency | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Low shelf | 200 Hz | -24 to +24 dB |
| Mid peaking | 1000 Hz | -24 to +24 dB |
| High shelf | 5000 Hz | -24 to +24 dB |
Includes a visual frequency response display. Boost low shelf for warmth, cut high shelf for sibilance, adjust mid for presence.
Compressor
Reduces dynamic range — makes loud parts quieter so you can raise the overall level.
| Parameter | Range | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Threshold | -60 to 0 dB | -20 dB | Level above which compression kicks in |
| Ratio | 1:1 to 20:1 | 4:1 | How aggressively to reduce signal above threshold |
| Attack | 0.1 to 200 ms | 10 ms | How fast the compressor reacts |
| Release | 10 to 2000 ms | 100 ms | How fast the compressor lets go |
| Makeup gain | 0 to 24 dB | 0 dB | Boost to compensate for volume reduction |
Starting point for voice: threshold -20 dB, ratio 3:1-4:1, attack 10 ms, release 100 ms.
Noise Gate
Silences audio below a threshold — cuts background noise between speech.
| Parameter | Range | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Threshold | -80 to 0 dB | Level below which audio is silenced |
| Attack | ms | How fast the gate opens when signal exceeds threshold |
| Release | ms | How fast the gate closes when signal drops below |
Set threshold just above your noise floor. Short attack to avoid clipping speech, moderate release to avoid chop.
Reverb
Simulates room reflections.
| Parameter | Range | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Room size | 0 to 1 | Size of the simulated space |
| Damping | 0 to 1 | High-frequency absorption (higher = deader room) |
| Stereo width | 0 to 1 | Spatial spread of the reverb |
| Dry/Wet | 0 to 1 | Mix between original (0) and reverb (1) |
Subtle ambience: dry/wet below 0.2. Dramatic: push higher.
Combining effects
Multiple effects on one clip process in series: EQ -> compressor -> noise gate -> reverb. Typical voice chain: EQ for tone, compressor for dynamics, gate for silence cleanup.
