Color Grading
Curves and LUTs
Fine-tune color channels with curves and apply look-up tables (LUTs) in Tooscut.
Curves for manual per-channel adjustments. LUTs for pre-built looks.
Curves
Reshape tonal response per channel.
Standard curves
| Curve | Controls |
|---|---|
| Master | Overall brightness — all channels |
| Red | Red channel only |
| Green | Green channel only |
| Blue | Blue channel only |
Click to add control points. Drag up to brighten, down to darken. Horizontal axis: shadows (left) to highlights (right).
Advanced curves
| Curve | Effect |
|---|---|
| Hue vs. Saturation | Boost or reduce saturation for specific hues |
| Hue vs. Hue | Shift one hue toward another |
| Hue vs. Luminance | Brighten or darken specific hues |
| Luminance vs. Saturation | Adjust saturation based on brightness |
| Saturation vs. Saturation | Boost or reduce already-saturated areas |
Example: S-curve contrast
- Add a Curves node.
- On the Master curve, add a point in the lower third — drag down.
- Add a point in the upper third — drag up.
- The S-shape deepens shadows and lifts highlights without clipping.
LUTs (Look-Up Tables)
Pre-computed color transformations in .cube files. Common uses: film emulations, log-to-display conversions, creative looks.
Importing
- Import the
.cubefile via the asset panel (see Importing Assets). - Add a LUT node to the grading graph.
- Select the LUT from the node's dropdown.
Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| LUT asset | Which imported .cube file to use |
| Interpolation | Trilinear or tetrahedral (tetrahedral is more accurate) |
| Mix | Blend between original (0%) and LUT result (100%) |
Supports LUT sizes up to 64cubed.
Stacking curves and LUTs
Common pattern: LUT for a base look, then curves after it for fine-tuning. Nodes process in order, so curves apply on top of the LUT output.
